Frequently asked questions
What people ask before their first Iftar.
What is an Iftar?
Iftar is the evening meal that breaks the daily fast during Ramadan. On Iftaring, hosts open their table to guests they have not met yet, whether the guests fast or not.
Do I have to be Muslim or fasting to join?
No. Iftaring exists for intercultural exchange. Curious neighbours, students, travellers and families are all welcome. Just be respectful of the moment.
How does trust work?
Hosts see your profile, your message and your reviews before accepting. Only accepted guests see the exact address. Everyone needs a verified email, and both sides review each other afterwards.
Can I host somewhere other than my home?
Yes. Choose a park, a community centre or a restaurant and untick “This is my home” when you publish. The address is shown the same way.
My requests keep getting declined. What can I do?
Complete your profile: add a photo, write a few honest lines about yourself, and send a personal message with each request. Hosts accept people, not blank forms.
Does it cost anything?
No. Iftaring is a volunteer community project. Hosts offer the meal; guests bring good company. Some hosts suggest bringing a dessert or drink to share.
How do I cancel?
Guests can cancel a request from their dashboard at any time before the date. Hosts can decline requests or cancel an Iftar, and everyone affected is notified by email.
